Mythomane is Mike McCarthy's first song release in over 4 years. Following on from 2018 album SERIOUS FACE, the new single was recorded over the course of 3 years. Who would have thought such a quirky, fun little track would emerge from the COVID wormhole we all found ourselves in but there you go, life is strange.
UK producer, Ian Batten (aka Roger Mars) made this track come alive with his sleight of hand and deft touch. Mike and Ian were sending track ideas back and forth and hearing about each countries state of craziness as Covid wreaked havoc across the world.
Mythomane has a happy, fun, chilled vibe with a west coast LA kind of vibe. With soaring guitar riffs, wild synth parts and cool strumming acoustic and electric feels, the lyrics poke fun at the state of the world and its various leaders throughout all the panic of a pandemic. Mythomane is a term for a compulsive liar and the track follows this fictional leader through all their stumbling and tripping as they lie their way to the top. There's a touch of the absurd with lyrics like;
"Crack what you lack with a golden dish rack you smooth little Mythomane
Grab for the future before you drop the past
non-belief in innocence"
This release was made possible with help from Create NSW and The Wyong Arthouse. PJ Harding c (Noah Cyrus, Meg Mac) contributed his genius to the track with a stellar synth part and vocals.

MYTHOMANE
Artist: Mike McCarthy
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Swipe to defect though you lean to the right
Error in your radiance
Pray to the storm, let chaos rule your world
Non-belief in innocence
It’s a wonder we are being
It’s a wonder we are here
Do you see now what I fear
Pay no attention, don’t even listen to me
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Trippin’ over words, Trippin’ over words
Crack what you lack with a golden dishrack
You smooth little mythomane
Grab for the future before you drop the past
And device driving you insane
It’s a wonder nothing’s clear
It’s a wonder we are here
Do you see now what I fear
Pay no attention, pay no attention to me
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Trippin’ over words
Didn’t mean to cause offence
I’m just trippin’ over words again
Trippin’ over words, Trippin’ over words, Trippin’ over words

Mike McCarthy's 'Serious Face' album is a throwback in time to an era of blues, soul, and roots music. Essentially a summer
road trip album full of good vibes and great story telling, the album goes from all out slide guitar 'blues grit' to warm firelight ballads....more
